Do College Relationships Last? (Explained)

do college relationships last?

First of all, before I tell you whether college relationships do last or not I would like to share with you some factors that determine whether they can last or not.

As with any relationship that happens anywhere, college relationships also require the same factors as the other relationship for them to survive.

They all need trust, honesty, commitment, love and care for a relationship to be whole.

What I’m trying to say is that college relationships also require the same factors that can make a relationship thrive.

So, if you want to know if college relationships do last then this is what I can tell you.

Most of the college relationships don’t last simply because most of the teenagers in college take relationships as a thing of passing time and finding pleasure from them. Very few relationships in college manage to go through until the end of the college period.

Most teenagers enter college intending to enjoy themselves. In college, they do have the freedom that they never had in high school.

Freedom sometimes can ruin you and make you do things that aren’t appropriate because you feel you have the whole time in the world.

Such a mindset make these teenagers think that finding one partner and sticking with him or her will be waste of time.

Instead, they only think of involving themselves in different relationships at a go so that they can gain experience.

This curiosity, the freedom and the urge of finding pleasure make most of the teenagers in college fail to take a grip of what is important to them.

So, many of them will enter relationships and at the end of one month they have already broken up and they have moved on with someone else.

This now turns to be a game for them.

I have observed this in the college that I am currently. I have seen some of my closest friends having engaged themselves in more than three relationships in a semester.

Most relationships in college never survive.

Why most college relationships do not last?

why most college relationships don't last

There are so many reasons why relationships in college don’t last. Though, I will share with you some of the common reasons.

Most colleges relationships don’t last because the people involved in them are mostly not ready to settle down and commit to each other. The only thing they think of is going after anyone who seems attractive to them. This is the main reason why most college relationships don’t last.

Trust me it will be hard to handle a relationship if you aren’t ready to settle down and commit to one person.

For a relationship to last couples have to be committed to each other.

If one of the people in that relationship stops being committed to it then it will never work out.

It will not last.

How long do college relationships last?

The length of time in which college relationships do depend on several factors that I will share with you.

If the couples involve in that relationship are serious about the relationship and are ready to commit to it then that relationship will last for a long time.

For the mediocre, who are only after fulfilling their sexual desires then their relationships will not last for a long time.

As I told you earlier that the length of time in which college relationships will last depends on various factors, but roughly most relationships last for about 4 to 6 months. These are the relationships for those who have tried so hard to keep it going despite the external influences.

Very few relationships in college last for 1 full year. The number of my closest friends that managed to maintain their relationships in college for one full year I can count.

They are very few.

Additionally, most of these relationships in college don’t last simply because of peer pressure.

A girl or a boy might be willing to stick with his or her partner but the external pressure from their closest friends are what will make him or her ruin his/her relationships.

How can I make my relationship in college last?

You can make your relationship last in college if you know exactly what to do and what you want from a relationship.

You can make your relationship last in college if you first choose your partner carefully—find the right person. You will be able to do this if you stop rushing into any relationships blindly. Take your time exploring the person you want to enter a relationship with.

Most of the failing relationships in college that I have seen failing are for the people who failed to choose the right person and also those who moved too fast in relationships.

Moving too fast in a relationship will never help you to come up with a strong and lasting relationship.

I realized that those people who move too fast in relationships are those who are driven by lust, fall in love easily and have no idea of what they are doing.

They have no idea of what they are doing. After all, they got themselves in a relationship because they saw other people doing the same.

How can I tell my relationship in college is working?

If you are doing the right thing for your relationship then you should expect to see something positive.

It’s important to know if your relationship is working so that you don’t end up wasting your time on someone who doesn’t deserve it.

You can tell your relationship in college is working if you see your partner committed to you and the relationship, you are open to each other, you fight the challenges you face together, you are both ready to sacrifice for the better of the relationship and you all have a plan for the future after college.

These are the first common things you will come across when your relationship in college is working.

The moment when your partner doesn’t talk anything about the future, there are constant fights, he/she is only available when he/she needs you, doesn’t spend time with you, and doesn’t want to sacrifice anything then know that relationship is not working.

If your relationship is not working it’s better you make a plan of ending it. This is because if you continue staying it might ruin you.

Lastly…

I want to clarify something for you. If you have found someone willing to stick with you and you have a positive feeling about him or her then go ahead and give him/her a chance.

It doesn’t mean that if most relationships in college don’t last so will be yours. If you do the right things that I have shared with you in this article then I’m positive that your relationship will work out the way you expect.

Once you notice that the person you are in a relationship with is manipulating you then just end the relationship and never apologize for it. You deserve better than that.
